The Robert C. Navarre Family

Robert C. Navarre (1830-1899) was born in Michigan on 3 Dec 1830 to Robert T. Navarre and Catherine Guyor Navarre. Robert T. (father) was a relative of the famous Peter Navarre of East Toledo, Ohio.

Robert enlisted in the 100th OVI in the Civil War and was wounded twice. After being wounded the second time he was discharged because of a disability.

He went on to marry Lucinda Jane Ankeney and the two settled in Manhattan Township - which was later annexed to Oregon, Ohio.

Robert was a farmer and a fur trader. The Oregon, Ohio are was swamp lands during the mid-1800s and also Native American lands.

Robert C. made a name for himself by serving as a trustee for four (4) years and a clerk for 2 years then moving to Constable for a total of 3 years.

In 1861, Robert C. and Lucinda Jane welcomed a daughter, Alice on the 8th of October.

Now, Alice would grow up in the Oregon, Ohio area. She would later marry Phillip Garrigan and they would have a son, which they named Robert, in line with her father and grandfather.

Alice was a member of the first auxiliary of the G.A.R. Ladies, showing that her father’s service played a huge role in who she would become in her adult life.

In 1868, Robert C. was employed as a LightHouse Keeper and served in this capacity for the remainder of his life.
