Here is a cabinet card portrait of Thomas Rideout once displayed by the Ford Post Number 14 of the Grand Army of the Republic (G.A.R.). The Ford Post was established in Toledo in 1867 as an organization for the Union Veterans of the American Civil War.
This card is from 1890.
The Rideout Family is a well-known name in Lucas County, Ohio. And Thomas was no different.
Thomas Rideout was a pioneer resident of Lucas County. He was a well-known and highly esteemed farmer, residing in Lucas County for more than 50 years.
Thomas was born on 15 Apr 1824 in North Dorset District, England, immigrating to the U.S. when he was jut t6 years old.
In 1852 he married Susannah COY (1830-1915) and they had 6 children.
Thomas passed away from Heart Failure on 3 Oct 1907 at the age of 77 and is buried in Willow Cemetery in Oregon, Ohio.
